Généralités
Une colonne ou un pilier (intégré dans un mur) est un élément de construction généralement vertical (parfois oblique) permettant de reprendre des charges concentrées principalement de compression (mais aussi horizontales) et de les transmettre aux éléments structurels en dessous.
